The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Kochi University has a "core curriculum" centered on key areas: Philosophy and Thought, Psychology, History and Geography, Japanese and Foreign Literature, Diversity in Culture, Region, and Language, Economics, Business Administration, and Law and Politics.Students here hone their specialized knowledge based on these "cores." Simultaneously, their specializations connect with the broad liberal arts education of the Humanities and Social Sciences domain, forming bridges between them. This intertwined learning fosters flexible thinking.
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Introduction
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences offers three courses: the Humanities Course, the International Society Course, and the Social Sciences Course. Under these three courses, nine programs are established to form the "core of learning." Each program is a collection of subjects based on specialized fields and academic perspectives, designed to promote systematic learning.
Humanities Course
The Humanities Course offers a wide range of lecture courses, seminars, practical training, and laboratory courses designed to examine human activities from diverse perspectives. Students can take courses across various humanities disciplines that reexamine contemporary society and encourage multifaceted thinking about what it means to be human. Upon graduation, students are awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree.
International Society Course
The International Society Course cultivates "global citizens" capable of soaring beyond various domestic and international barriers, with an eye toward our increasingly diverse and complex global society. The core of the learning experience consists of three programs paired with small-group seminars and field studies both domestically and internationally. Upon graduation, students are awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Social Sciences Course
The Social Sciences Course offers study in economics, law, political science, sociology, business administration, accounting, and related fields. Alongside lecture courses covering diverse perspectives within the social sciences, the program features extensive seminars for specialized study in small groups. Upon graduation, students are awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.
