Overview of Reorganization
The Center for Advanced Marine Core Research reorganized its structure and renamed ourselves as Marine Core Research Institute (MaCRI) in FY2023 in order to achieve Kochi University’s motto, “From Regionality to Globality and from Globality to Regionality.” Under this reorganization, we aim to enhance our international presence of as the hub research facility based on the following activities:
1) Promoting MaCRI’s joint use program internationally
2) Strengthening education system for young researchers
3) Building networks with other academic communities
4) Maintaining solid partnership with JAMSTEC to broaden research capacity
5) Promoting international research projects mainly on Drilling Earth Science

New Challenges
■Collaborative Core Projects
MaCRI has initiated prioritized promotion of collaborative core projects focusing on scientific research topics such as "climate change," "earthquakes and tsunamis," and "Earth-Life Science." We will advance Kochi University's core research on resources and regional collaboration in partnership with relevant communities and all faculties.

Kochi University and JAMSTEC have launched a collaborative program known as the Repository Core Re-Discovery Program (ReCoRD) with Japan Drilling Earth Science Consortium (J-DESC).ReCoRD will oversee several research projects under the theme of the Earth System Variations, such as climate change, natural hazards, or biological evolution proposed by researchers. It will involve sampling and digitally archiving repository cores for reanalyzing these samples. ReCoRD is expected to become a new open science platform collaborating with international science communities.
